Trident Academy Art Therapist Sally Collins, in conjunction with the Gibbes Museum of Art, will host a series of art classes for second through fifth graders with learning differences, autism, and Asperger’s Syndrome.
The classes will be held on Saturdays from September 21 through October 12, 2013, at Trident Academy (1455 Wakendaw Rd., Mt. Pleasant). The classes are from 10 until 11 a.m. and cost $60 for museum members and $75 for non-members.
Students will work with clay, collage, watercolor pencils, and building techniques. Parents and caregivers are welcome.
“Art is incredibly important for students with learning differences or autism,” Mrs. Collins says. “These students are creative and art gives them a form of expression that may come more easily to them. Using different formats provides the multisensory learning environment in which they thrive.”
