A licensed psycho-educational specialist will now be working with parents, students and teachers at Trident Academy, a K5-12 school in Mt. Pleasant for students with learning differences. Chantal Y. Milcarek, M.Ed. will help with testing interpretation, behavior and strategies, admissions, and serve as a resource for parents. These services are included with tuition.
“Our goal in working with Chantal is to be more consultative with parents as they plan and prepare for their child’s transition,” says Interim Head of School Sandi Clerici. “This opportunity became available when we were able to redefine a more traditional administrative position to gain this valuable psycho-educational support.”
Milcarek has extensive experience as a psychologist assessing children in grades pre-K-12 in both public and private school settings. She is skilled in the development and navigation of Section 504 and Individualized Education Plans (IEP), which play an integral role in ensuring the academic success of students with learning differences. Chantal is the founder and primary practitioner of Sprouting Minds, which specializes in the comprehensive assessment of intellectual, academic and behavioral-emotional functioning of children and adolescents.
“More than anything, I want students who are struggling to meet their potential in the classroom,” Milcarek says. “I think the best way to do that is through collaboration. I’ll continue facilitating collaborations between the families and teachers at Trident Academy, as well as helping students have a more seamless transition to another school or to college.”
