What are our sources of funding?
Trident Academy receives money from these sources: tuition and other fees, contributions from trustees, parents, alumni, faculty and staff, grandparents, friends, foundations, community organizations, and auxiliary sources such as parent organizations (TAPA)
Why do we ask for contributions for and investments in the futures of our students?
Because tuition does not fully cover the expenses incurred by Trident Academy each year, we also ask for philanthropic gifts which support our mission and provide resources which benefit our students. As with most private schools, these gifts are needed to meet our annual expenses, and to improve and add programs for our students. Without additional funding, we wouldn’t be able to provide students with:
- more individualized instruction
- cutting-edge programs
- assistive technology
- tuition assistance
- other elements that comprise a first-class education
Over the years, have most families given in addition to paying tuition?
Yes. Throughout the history of Trident Academy, generous supporters have made annual gifts in varying amounts, as well as having given for comprehensive facilities improvement programs. This level of commitment is essential to meet our financial obligations, enhance and expand our programs and facilities, and plan for the future.
Ours is a school founded and supported by many generous families who have given throughout the years. Your child is benefiting from the philanthropic support of donors whose children and grandchildren have long since graduated from Trident Academy. These families made giving to the school a priority to ensure the success of our school. We are asking our current families to continue in this tradition, for current and future generations of Trident Academy students.
May contributions be designated?
Yes, you may make designations for your gift. Within the Annual Fund, gifts may be made for the following three broad categories:
- Academics and teaching
- Scholarships and tuition assistance
Unrestricted gifts help underwrite the school’s operations and areas of greatest needs. Gifts may also be restricted for other purposes or projects. Restricted gifts are used only for the purposes for which they were given.
Our expert faculty and proven approaches ensure that students will be able to successfully transition to mainstream learning environments. One of our measures of success is the list of noteworthy college prep schools into which our students have successfully transitioned, such as Porter-Gaud, Ashley Hall, Charleston Collegiate School, and Mason Preparatory School, as well as rigorous public schools.
Another metric is the list of colleges and universities our alumni have gone on to attend, when perhaps this level of academic achievement was not thought possible during students’ early years. Our alumni have attended colleges and universities such as:
- Note Dame
- University of South Carolina
- Fresno-Pacific University
- The Citadel
- The College of Charleston
- Randolph Macon College
- Converse College
How are contributions made?
Gifts of cash, credit card, appreciated stocks, and gifts- in- kind may be made to Trident Academy. Donors may visit our online donations page at www.tridentacademy.com. Are gifts tax deductible?
Yes. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, contributions to Trident Academy are acknowledged in writing and are deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
How are gifts stewarded?
Trident Academy believes in being donor-centered and aspires to platinum level stewardship in due diligence for the resources provided by donors. The Donor Bill of Rights is at the core of our philosophy. Therefore, donors may be assured that they will receive timely gift acknowledgments, prompt and truthful responses in reply to inquiries on giving, and information on the use of their gifts. We are a Gold level exchange member on GuideStar, a measure of our commitment to transparency and accountability.
