Accredited Training Program

In spring 2012, Trident Academy became an Accredited Training Program for the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators (AOGPE) for both the Associate and Certified levels of membership. We are one of seventeen Academy Accredited Training Programs in the United States, and one of only six whose training is accredited at the Certified level.

The yearlong process to become an Accredited Training Program included a mentor visit, a lengthy application document, and a site visit by a member of the Accreditation Committee.

Academy standards for Associate and Certified levels of membership are rigorous. At the Associate level, a yearlong training, including sixty hours of course work and 100 hours of practicum, is required before an application can be made to the Certifying Committee.  The Certified level requires a two year training with an additional 100 hours of course work and 200 hours of supervised practicum.

The Certifying Committee reviews all applications for content before a decision is made on the competency of the candidate to teach the Orton-Gillingham approach. Over the last five years Trident has had 100% of its applicants approved by the Committee. Trident presently has five faculty members working toward the Certified level.
