Spring is a busy time of year in Charleston, and at Trident Academy. The school will be represented at four events in the coming months: Lowcountry Family Expo, Kids Fair, Walk for Autism, and at the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators Annual Conference.
The Lowcountry Family Expo will be held Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Admission is $5 for adults while children12 and under are free. Disney Channel Star Sierra McCormick (A.N.T. Farm) will be at the inaugural event which also includes interactive entertainment, guest appearances, hands-on kid’s activities, education, healthy lifestyles, and a showcase of the latest products and services for families. Kids Fair is scheduled for Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Burke High School (244 President St.). Come by our booth to learn more about Learning Differences Education.
The Walk for Autism will be held May 3, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in Hampton Park. Walk for Autism-Charleston funds scholarships for families to help pay for the treatment and intervention of autism through behavioral and relational development programs. It is a family-friendly walk with free refreshments, live music, jump castles, silent auction, autism merchandise, haircuts by Great Clips, and therapy dogs. The Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators Annual Conference will be held on March 15 and 16, 2014, in Winston-Salem, N.C. Trident Academy will at the conference, and several faculty members will be in attendance. The theme is “The Power of Orton-Gillingham: Inclusive, Effective, and Universal.” Barbara Wilson will deliver a keynote address on “Integrating Orton-Gillingham and the Common Core,” and John Randall Gorby will deliver a keynote address on “My Journey.” Former Trident Academy teacher Peggy Price, M.Ed., FIT/AOGPE, will present on “The Challenges of the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator.”
