Language Enrichment and Development
The focus of this class is to remediate and strengthen reading skills with alphabetic/phonetic instruction. Through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning, students will understand the sound-symbol association of letters and learn strategies for blending sounds into words. Decoding concepts and useful spelling generalizations will be introduced as well.
Reading Comprehension and Applied Writing
In this class, students in grades 3-5 will apply concrete strategies for comprehending what they read. With a specific format, students will learn how to locate important details in written content and determine the main idea.
In applied writing, focus will be on understanding sentence and paragraph structure. For students in grades 1-3, the focus will be on correctness in letter formation, writing posture, as well as pencil grip. Comprehension skills will include identifying the parts of a story and understanding story meaning.
This unique program offers a hands-on approach to learning math. Students build skills through sequential, incremental instruction with consistent review. Through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning, students will gain knowledge of math concepts appropriate to their specific skill level.
In order to group students appropriately, each child must be assessed prior to the June 13th start date. The cost of testing is included in the tuition and should last approximately one hour. For those registering for just one or two sessions, the session times will be determined after all student assessments have been completed. Elizabeth Alexander, Director of OutReach, will contact you to schedule your child’s assessment.
Students are expected to attend all scheduled days of the four week program. There are no discounts for siblings or reimbursement for days missed.
