Mt. Pleasant school Trident Academy recently added Julie Long to its team. As a seven-year veteran of the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) field and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Ms. Long will work closely with the school’s teachers to help students become independent learners.
Ms. Long’s education includes a psychology degree from the College of Charleston and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University. A part-time job in college introduced Ms. Long to ABA – an experience that would change the course of her life.
“The science-based and data-driven nature of the field enthralled me,” shares Ms. Long. “ABA can change the lives of the individual as well as their families and friends. I cannot imagine a greater field or a greater gift.”
Trident Academy provides a unique program for advanced learners on the autism spectrum. Through small classroom settings and individualized instruction, students at Trident Academy are taught how to harness their strengths and excel to their true potential. Ms. Long will work closely with Trident Academy teachers to combine the benefits of both classroom-based approaches as well as one-on-one intensive ABA methodology. Trained behavior technicians will receive advanced training and mentoring under Ms. Long’s guidance.
Trident Academy opened a program in 2012 for students with Asperger’s Syndrome. When asked about leading this program, Ms. Long shared that she looks “forward to giving advanced learners on the autism spectrum a one-of-a-kind environment where they can excel to their true potential.” Welcome aboard, Julie.
