The students went beyond just raiding their pantries to help those in need. A Lower School student and his family gave up their weekly snack money to buy non-perishable items for the drive. A Middle School student dipped into his savings account to help and a High School student’s parent offered to donate the same number of cans he brought in.
Student Council sponsored a competition during the month of November and the Lower School won by bringing in more than 500 cans. They earned a week of wearing jeans to school.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our students and their families,” said LEAD and social studies teacher Joanne Kirkland and English teacher Julie Stephenson, co-advisors of Student Council. “They really exceeded our expectations in their excitement for the cause, the number of cans they were able to collect, and their creativity in getting the cans – that is one of the things that makes Trident Academy so wonderful.”
