High School

Trident Academy’s high school experience is unique. In order to meet the needs of our older students, we employ an OG curriculum in conjunction with Project-Based Learning (PBL).  Students learn through the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading and spelling through prescriptive, diagnostic, sequential, structured and multi-sensory teaching, but every lesson will begin with a Driving Question.  

For example:  Is global warming impacting Charleston, South Carolina?

This Driving Question is then followed by direct, explicit instruction.  Students learn to interpret the question, categorize information, collect data, and conduct research in order to answer the question.  

For example: Investigate whether the King Tides affecting Charleston are higher than they used to be.

Students then begin in-depth, multi-sensory research projects on their topic. This includes using technology to research their respective topics, going on field trips relevant to their respective topics, and bringing experts in the field into the school to teach students.  Project topics are woven throughout core subjects and conclude with presentations, our culminating event.

Our high school program is housed in a state-of-the-art classroom.  All students earn a minimum of 24 Carnegie Units required for a high school diploma.
