Exceptional SC Funding

Exceptional SC is a 501(c)(3) charity that accepts donations for the purpose of providing scholarships to South Carolina K-12 students with special needs to attend independent educational institutions. Donations made to Exceptional SC are eligible for a state tax credit outlined in the annual state budget. 

Exceptional SC scholarship grants are available for eligible students attending approved private schools in the state of South Carolina. These grants are not need-based. The deadline for applying for scholarship grants for the 2023-24 school year was September 30, 2023.

Parent Refundable Tax Credits are available for parents or guardians of exceptional needs students who pay the student’s tuition at an eligible school. The South Carolina Department of Revenue accepts applications for these tax credits in early February each year. The Department of Revenue is authorized to provide $5 million in tax credits on a first-come, first-served basis.
